Earlier this month, contributors to an upcoming volume of The ANNALS met at the Annenberg Public Policy Center to present their draft papers, provide feedback to fellow contributors, and discuss the volume as a whole. Scholars and writers from around the country—and even from abroad—came together on the University of Pennsylvania campus to collaborate on the forthcoming volume, tentatively titled Donald J. Trump, the Supreme Court, and American Constitutionalism.
AAPSS President Marta Tienda attended the two-day conference and remarked, “It was a privilege to attend the ANNALS authors’ conference about the evolution of the U.S. Supreme Court. The depth and breadth of substantive expertise on display made for rigorous, if often sobering, discourse about the implications of the politicization of the Court for American constitutionalism, the separation of powers, and the future of our democracy.”
Guest edited by AAPSS fellows Lee Epstein (2004 Thorsten Sellin Fellow) and Rogers M. Smith (2011 Theodore Roosevelt Fellow), this volume considers Trump’s impact on the Court, the Court’s impact on the presidency, and how the Court’s evolving jurisprudence affects American politics and governance. The volume is expected to be released in early 2025 and will feature contributions from Adam Liptak, Jonathan Adler, Terri Peretti, Gillian Metzger, and more.
